Course Contents
🌲 Arrival & Settling Into the Woodland
As you walk beneath the canopy of primarily Beech and Oak trees, your senses begin to tune into the woodland’s rhythm: birdsong, the scent of nature, and the soft crunch of leaves underfoot. You’ll be greeted and guided to our woodland base, where you’ll receive a welcome and introduction to the environment you’ll be calling home for the weekend.
✨Bushcraft Skills for Beginners
Bushcraft on this course is practical, enjoyable, and accessible. Each activity is taught in a relaxed, supportive style, ensuring anyone with little or no experience is comfortable.
We will touch on all the different versions of activities that can fall under the bushcraft umbrella, from the modern wild camping aspects to the old school primitive skills available to us in nature.
🔥Firecraft & Knife Work
You’ll learn how to:
-
Understand fire’s role in survival, comfort, and cooking
-
Process wood with a fixed blade knife & learn safe use
-
Use natural tinder found around the woodland
-
Build and maintain a fire safely
-
Ignite your own fire using these skills
There’s nothing quite like harnessing the power of fire. We will touch on modern more accessible options too so you leave comfortable with the idea of pursuing the outdoors without fear.
🌿 Foraging & Woodland Awareness
You’ll gain an introduction to:
-
Identifying a few common edible plants
-
Recognising useful natural materials
-
Understanding tree species and what they offer (fuel, shelter, tinder, tools)
This isn’t a hardcore survival course—it’s a calm, knowledgeable introduction to working with nature rather than against it.
🪵 Shelter & Campcraft
You’ll be guided through:
-
Tying essential knots
-
Using high-quality tarps and equipment
-
Selecting safe, comfortable sleeping spots
-
Setting up a personal, cosy woodland camp with your choice of a hammock or bivvy bag (ground sleeping) setup
Your shelter becomes your own peaceful pocket of forest for the weekend where you are free to relax or personalise at any time.
You are free to bring your own wild camping or bushcraft equipment if you own them already and would like to put them to use or swap between provided equipment.
We will also touch on how to get out by yourself or with your family/friends.
🍽️ Cooking & Eating in the Wild
You’ll enjoy locally sourced meals cooked using the finest ingredients in a variety of styles including a primitive meal cooked directly on the coals. Expect high‑quality ingredients—such as thick-cut steak, fresh local fruits & vegetables, and delicious additions tailored to the season.
Eating outdoors, by firelight, under the trees is often a highlight of the experience and is another aspect of this escape that sets us apart from the 'hard core' bushcraft courses available.
🌌 Nights Under the Canopy
After dinner each evening, you’ll share stories around the fire, reflect on the day, or simply enjoy the crackle of the flames and the star-filled sky. With minimal artificial light, even familiar constellations appear brighter and clearer from within the woodland.
When you’re ready, you’ll sleep in your chosen camp setup—warm, comfortable, and surrounded by the soothing sounds of nature.
🌅 Mindfulness & Wellbeing
You’ll wake to birdsong and the soft glow of daybreak through the trees. Your days are structured in a stress-free fashion, focusing on calmness and wellbeing. You are encouraged to put down technology and the focus on modern inventions like deadlines. You will be joined by a professional psychotherapist to conduct some Somatic exercises to promote wellbeing, you’ll enjoy:
-
Gentle grounding exercises
-
Instant regulator exercises
-
Soothing exercises
-
Stimulating exercises
-
Strengthening exercises
-
Nature-based mindfulness
-
A reconnection with your surroundings
🌲 Flexible Time & Optional Extra Activities
We don't believe in forcing a good time or involvement so you will have the option to sit out on aspects if relaxation is needed. We also plan flexible/relax time, we can accommodate adjustments on the day to suit individual questions or additional topics.
Some additional activity introductions can include bird/nature watching & moon/star gazing with a high power spotting scope and binoculars. We will even provide ideas of new topics or repeating skills you would like to hone. Note that if wild swimming is your thing the lake is available with appropriate attire.
Also there is opportunity to request additional therapy led time, just one example is the 'Trauma recovery IARTT Rewind Technique (Muss Rewind Technique)'.

Common Questions
Who can attend?
Our normal 2 night events are exclusively for adults. Group capacity 5 to keep it more personal and serene. We welcome couples and respectful groups, which will require you all to book separately. If you would like to book a private weekend for you or your family (which can then include your children) this is available via the contact us 'Request My Escape' form.
What should I pack?
Sturdy footwear, toiletries and weather-appropriate layers are essential and your own sleeping bag if you own one (we can rent one on the day for a small fee if you dont own one). Everything else will be provided but you are free to bring your own wild camping equipment if you prefer. Further advice provided on welcome pack email.
How suitable is my current bushcraft ability?
No experience required at all, its supported learning of the core skills and aimed at being a first (easy) introduction to bushcraft.
If you are already experienced and you are familiar with the content, it will be more of an opportunity to practise core skills.
What is the toilet and shower situation?
Proper toilets and shower unit nearby, 3 minute walk from camp.
What if the weather is bad?
We embrace the elements! Our high-quality tarps and gear keep you dry and cosy. We provide warm and high quality equipment in case it is cold. We only postpone if conditions are officially deemed unsafe, such as extreme storms.
Is the retreat safe?
Absolutely. Sessions are led by experienced instructors and qualified therapists, and we maintain tiny groups to ensure everyone is well looked after. We hold required insurance, full risk assessments, SOP's, 'First aid in the outdoors' qualification and an excessively large first aid and fire kit!
Can you cater to dietary needs?
Yes, definitely. Whether you're vegan, gluten-free, or have specific allergies, just let us know when booking or reply to the welcome pack. Our gourmet campfire meals are prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
Can I bring alcohol?
To maintain the wellness focus and ensure safety around open fires, we ask that you leave the booze at home. We provide plenty of coffee, teas, and seasonal infusions.
What is the policy on phone use?
We strongly encourage a digital detox. While there is signal for emergencies, we prefer for phones to be tucked away or turned off to help everyone sink into the silence of the woods.
Where do I park & how do I get there?
Parking is free near the woodland and all directions will be explained on the welcome pack email.
